About the tour and guide

Starting in what was an ancient Roman burial ground in Spitalfields, we wind around the old Roman Route of Ermine Street. Looking up from the street, we use architecture, images and readings to illustrate changes in local economies, housing, transport, and the impact of gentrification. We also look at symbolism and codes written in stone: if buildings could talk, what would they say?

Guide: Ian Kernohan has been a London resident for over 25 years and has a post-graduate diploma in architectural history from Birkbeck College.

"The journey itself was a visual feast, with lots of great architecture , landscape, street art and even a Banksy!" feedback from 2022 tour.
