We are currently recruiting for volunteers to help at Open House this year, on Saturday 19th September 2020 – Sunday 20th September 2020.
Open House is London's largest festival of architecture and design where over 800 buildings across London open their doors to the public for free. 8,000 people volunteer every year over the weekend event.
Volunteering slots for the next programme are not yet available.
- What is involved?
As a volunteer you will be helping building owners/representatives to open their buildings to the public. In a lot of cases, the buildings would not be able to open without volunteer support.
You only have to commit one morning or afternoon on one day during the event, and you will be able to choose a slot from a list of buildings which have requested support.
You also don't have to be a guide or a steward, you can volunteer to help in our office during August sending out guides and volunteer packs, at one of our sales hubs during the weekend selling t-shirts and bags, or as an Area Rep during the weekend where you can see lots of different sites all in one borough!
Volunteers should be 18 or over. 16-17 years olds may volunteer but only if they volunteer with an accompanying adult. Please choose to volunteer together at the same venue and same time.
Please let us know if you require any additional support or if you have a health condition or disability you think we should know about in advance of signing up to be a volunteer.
- Why should I volunteer?
97% of our volunteers would recommend the experience to a friend.
Helping to make Open House happen is a rewarding experience. It offers new experiences and skills, as well as providing a great opportunity to learn more about architecture and the built environment. To help you prepare for volunteering, you will receive the following in your volunteer pack:
- a volunteer 'Can I Help' sticker to wear during your volunteer time slot and a volunteer priority badge which allows you to jump the queues at most buildings over the weekend (exceptions apply)
- a copy of the Open House guide
- invitation to the closing party held at one of our participating buildings on the Sunday evening
Note for Student Volunteers: We will send your volunteer priority badge and guide in the post in September so please make sure you include the address for your September student residence when you apply.
Please note: we will ask for your postal address, email and phone number when you register to become a volunteer. Your postal address for internal use only and is used to send your volunteer pack. Your email address and phone number will be passed only to the building manager at your chosen venue so that they are able to contact you prior to the weekend.
If you have further questions about volunteering which aren't answered here, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0207 383 2131
