Original 2-story garment factory built in 1933. Additional stories were added and taken over by Burberry in the '50s, becoming global HQ until 2006. A two-phase residential redevelopment added another 2 stories, with ground floor studios.

  • History

    1932 - Original Polikoff garment factory burns down in Mare St. New 2-storey building is commissioned by Alfred Polikoff in Chatham Place
    1933 - Texile Building is completed and runs many lines of menswear and womenswear, and sub-brands of 'Sportstown' and 'APS Slacks and Shorts' connected to tennis player, Fred Perry
    1943 Alfred Polikoff passes away
    1944 Nov 19th. Textile Building is severely damaged by a V2 strike. Upon renovation another 3 stories are added
    1948 Polikoff business is purchased by Great Universal Stores (founded Manchester 1900),
    1952 GUS purchase Burberry, and move production into Textile Building, sharing the space with Polikoff lines. This is also mirrored in Polikoff's Welsh and Irish production facilities
    1970's+ The building is given over entirely to Burberry, becoming it's HQ
    1991 Burberry outlet store opened at Chatham Place to reduce surplus warehouse stock
    2006 GUS sell Burberry, and the building is redeveloped to residential and studio in 2 phases. The 2nd phase adds an additional 2 stories to the Textile Building
