The main aim of charity Four Corners Film Workshop was to create a unique facility to support artists, photographers and filmmakers in the East London Region, a socially inclusive facility of significant benefit to the local community and beyond. They had inherited an existing dilapidated building, so they needed help to come up with a design to match their vision.
The architects' approach was to introduce a clear circulation route or ‘Street’ linking all the facilities. The creation of a small courtyard provides not only natural light and ventilation, but is a ‘Hub’ for different creative disciplines.
The project was opened by local dignatories in 2007, was acclaimed by the LDA, and won a EEC award for funding.
40 Years Since the Miners Strike: focuses on the history of the Miners Strike.. The project will create an exhibition at Four Corners’ Gallery, alongside workshops, talks and a film screening. It is being developed in collaboration with the Martin Parr Gallery in Bristol.
