A 5.25 acre mixed-use development on the site formerly known as the Shell Centre. Developers Braeburn Estates, the partnership between Canary Wharf Group and Qatari Diar, will deliver 1.4 million sq ft of new accommodation and public realm.
Southbank Place is a 5.25 acre mixed-use development on the site formerly known as the Shell Centre by developers Braeburn Estates, a joint venture between Canary Wharf Group plc and Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company. This will deliver 1.4 million sq ft of new accommodation, public realm, commercial and retail at one of London’s most iconic cultural locations, overlooking the River Thames, Jubilee Gardens and the London Eye.
The masterplan by Squire and Partners creates new connections through the site which visually and physically link the River Thames to Waterloo Station, and enhance the existing range of cultural and open spaces stretching from Tower Bridge in the east to Westminster Bridge in the west. A mix of offices, private and affordable homes and retail space will link to new public open spaces, with the existing 1960s Shell Centre Tower at its heart.
The development provides an opportunity to establish successful urban design principles and create a vibrant new quarter, responding to its context to create a world-class environment on this iconic stretch of the river.
Squire and Partners are working alongside Stanton Williams, KPF, Grid, Patel Taylor, Adamson Associates and Townshend Landscape Architects on the individual aspects within the scheme.
