About

Who we are

The Hackney School of Food has won eleven architectural awards, including the prestigious RIBA Stephen Lawrence Prize 2022. We stand as an exemplar of retrofitting a disused and rundown building into functioning food education hub for visiting schools and community groups as part of our mission to show how food is grown and to create nutritious recipes from scratch.

Open House x HSoF

As part of Open House Citiesm this September we are opening our garden gates and kitchen doors for you to teet our brilliant architects behind our multi award-winning food education hub, as featured in the architectural press and 'The Sustainable City' And have the opportunity to chat with the team behind our 'soil to spoon' food education.

Surman Weston will be answering questions about the origin of the scheme and how they went about retrofitting the caretaker's house into the Food Education Hub that stands today with the teaching kitchen, surrounded by productive gardens, supplying ingredients for our lessons.

We are running 2 one hour sessions on this open house afternoon, with an opportunity to meet our Award Winning architects, Surman Weston.
Each session will include -
A full architectural tour of the kitchen & gardens
