The Open City Stewardship Awards

Projects and places shortlisted for the inaugural Open City Stewardship Awards.

Long term care of the urban realm is the most important, but least celebrated aspect of contemporary city making. While many awards programmes endorse exciting new buildings, public spaces and infrastructure, the critical ongoing work of repairing, refurbishing and maintaining the city goes unrewarded. This collection explores the work selected for the shortlist of the inaugural Open City Stewardship Awards across each of the five categories: Outstanding Estate Management, Open Space Stewardship, Social Stewardship, Materials and Resource Management and Post-occupancy in Practice. The shortlist includes projects of a myriad of scales, from a community garden to a globally recognised retail destination, and from a range of disciplines, from facilities management, to engineering, to landscape architecture, to community organising.
