This tour will give an insight into the many different eras and building styles represented on one of Croydon's busiest streets- from Victorian industry, the World Wars, Brutalism and even a ghost swimming pool.

History

Discover differing architectural styles and buildings that have witnessed key historical moments, including Purley War Memorial Hospital (1909),
Croydon's Victorian industrial past and view of the old power station chimney (1896- now Ikea car park), the interwar years of entertainment and leisure, passing the old Lido and airport terminal building (1928), the legacy of urban town planning and the construction of the Croydon Flyover (1969) as part of the "cities of tomorrow".
